JOHN DUMELO DARES TO WALK BARE FOOTED , BACKWARDS FROM HIS CONSTITUENCY TO PRESEC, LEGON SHOULD ACHIMOTA LOSE NSMQ 2023



 Ghanaian blogger, Bottosgod posted a meme on his Snapchat story of how John Dumelo dared that he would walk barefooted, backwards from his constituency to PRESEC, Legon should Achimota lose the NSMQ 2023. In order to determine how authentic this statement I conducted a fact checking exercise to confirm that John Dumelo did indeed make that statement.

METHODOLOGY:

There was a set of laid down procedures I took to fact-check this statement. They included: 


1. Identifying the Source:

I searched the media to find the primary source of the information. I found that the main source of the circulating story was from John Dumelo's twitter account, @johndumelo. The Ghanaian actor posted on his twitter account saying, "I am a proud Achimotan but if PRESEC wins the #NSMQ2023 on the 31st I will walk barefoot backwards from Ayawaso West Wuogon to presec school! They can't win over Motown! Presec? Tweeeaa!!!".

2. Cross-Checking Information:

I continued to verify from other sources such as online news outlets. A picture of the twitter post by John Dumelo was featured in news outlets such as Pulse Ghana, Graphic Online, Ghana Celebrities among others. The News outlets provided details that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency said he would walk barefoot backwards from Ayawaso West Wuogon to PRESEC should they beat his alma mater, Achimota, during the previous NSMQ2023. Each News outlet provided the same information.  


3. Fact-Checking Statements:

 I fact-checked the image using TineEye and found other accounts that had uploaded the same image with the same contents and any additional relevant details.


FINDINGS:

Based on my fact-checking exercise, the following are the key findings:


1. Source of the Story:

It was confirmed from John Dumelo's twitter account that he did indeed make that statement that he would walk barefooted, backwards from Ayawaso West Wuogon to PRESEC should they beat his alma mater, Achimota, during the previous NSMQ2023. Various news outlets reported on it as well confirming the validity of the statement. 


2. Timeline:

The twitter post was made on October 22nd, 2023 at 7:27pm on Twitter @johndumelo. 


3. Additional Details:

News Outlets reported that John Dumelo was a graduate of Achimota Secondary School and wanted to show his support for his alma mater. He did perform true to his word on 31st October, 2023 when Achimota lost to PRESEC in the NSMQ2023. John Dumelo posted on his social media account videos and pictures of him walking backwards and barefooted from  Ayawaso West Wuogon to PRESEC, bearing gifts for the school Headmaster and NSMQ winners.
