REFLECTIVE ESSAY ON WHY I CHOSE TO STUDY JOURNALISM AND HOW ONLINE AND DIGITAL JOURNALISM HAVE HELPED ME.

Throughout my life, I have always harbored a deep-seated dream of becoming a journalist. The allure of uncovering untold stories, giving voice to the voiceless, and making a positive impact on society has captivated my imagination since I was young. However, my journey towards pursuing this dream has not been without its challenges.

During my time in junior high school, my classmates would often discourage me from studying journalism. Their main argument centered around the perceived dangers and risks associated with the profession. They would often mention instances of journalists being targeted or even killed for their work. Despite their discouragement, I chose to remain steadfast in my conviction and forge ahead on the path that I believed would fulfill my passion.


When it came time for tertiary education, I had the opportunity to study an agricultural course at University for Development Studies (UDS). It was a practical and secure option, but deep down, I knew that my true calling lay in journalism. The passion I had for storytelling, shedding light on important issues, and making a positive impact on society couldn't be ignored. So, I made the decision to enroll in a private institution, African University College Of Communication(AUCC), to pursue my journalism career.


Choosing to follow my passion for journalism wasn't an easy decision. It meant stepping away from the conventional path and embracing the uncertainties that come with a career in media. However, I firmly believe that when you follow your passion, the journey becomes more meaningful and fulfilling.


Online and digital journalism is one of the course I have studied and it refers to the practice of reporting and disseminating news through digital platforms such as websites, social media, and mobile applications. It allows journalists to reach a wider audience and deliver news in real-time. It also involves multimedia elements like videos, infographics, and interactive features to enhance storytelling. It's an exciting and evolving field that leverages technology to bring news to people wherever they are!


Studying online and digital journalism has made studying journalism more accessible and convenient. With online platforms, as an aspiring journalists i access a wealth of information, resources, and news articles from around the world. I can also connect with professionals in the field and learn from their experiences. 


Additionally, digital tools and technologies have made it easier to gather, analyze, and present data in a more engaging and interactive manner.


 So, overall, online and digital journalism has opened up new opportunities for learning and growth in the field.
