EMPOWERING GIRLS: COMBATING CHILD LABOUR IN THE CENTRAL REGION GHANA

 The survey results show that 21.8 percent of children aged 5-17 years engaged in child labour. The proportion of male children in child labour was slightly higher (22.7%) than females (20.8%). The proportion of urban children in child labour was 12.4 percent compared to 30.2 percent of children in rural areas.


It's troubling to see that 21.8% of children aged 5-17 in Ghana are involved in child labor. The fact that the proportion is slightly higher for boys (22.7%) compared to girls (20.8%) is noteworthy. Additionally, child labor is more prevalent in rural areas (30.2%) compared to urban areas (12.4%). These findings emphasize the importance of addressing this issue and implementing measures to protect the rights and well-being of these children. Let's continue to raise awareness and work towards creating a safer and brighter future for them. When it comes to the topic of child labor in the Central Region of Ghana, there are several challenges that need to be addressed. Poverty is one of the major underlying factors that push children into labor. Many families living in poverty rely on their children's income to survive, leading to a cycle of exploitation.

the lack of access to quality education is also another challenge. Without proper education, children are more vulnerable to being trapped in exploitative labor situations. It is crucial to provide educational opportunities to these children, allowing them to break free from the cycle of poverty and gain the skills ( going to school )they need for a brighter future.

Limited awareness about the consequences of child labor is also a significant challenge. Many communities may not fully understand the physical, emotional, and developmental harm that child labor can cause. Raising awareness through educational campaigns and community engagement can help change mindsets and encourage collective action against child labor.

there is a need for stronger enforcement of labor laws to protect children from exploitation. It is essential for authorities to take proactive measures to identify and address instances of child labor, ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable and children are provided with the necessary support and protection.

These campaigns can involve various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and local community leaders.
